Our PTO

"The Walter Douglas Parent Teacher Organization is the best way for our school's parents to interact with their child's teachers. We strive to foster those relationships and create a sense of community between our staff and our parents through projects, scholarships, goal-sharing, and open communication." John Mussulman, PTO President

The Walter Douglas Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has grown over time to form a collaborative relationship in support of our students. This connection is bolstered by a unifying goal to raise funds, make improvements, and support school initiatives deemed appropriate and necessary to the functions of the school. Comprised of PTO officers, parents, administrators, a teacher representative from each grade level, support staff members, and a Spanish translator, the PTO meets monthly to discuss school priorities and initiate fundraising efforts. Our PTO Meetings take place the first Wednesday of every month at 2:30 p.m. in room 29. We hope to see you there!

A Note From Our PTO President

Well friends, this is it. The last newsletter of the 2017/2018 school year. April was rowdy, wasn’t it? It was an unusually busy month, but I want to talk about two things in particular.

The first thing was our 1st Annual Color Run, and holy wow was it a success We made the most money from any one event we’ve ever done. More importantly, we had the MOST VOLUNTEERS we’ve ever had. The fact that we had so many parents participating at our best event ever isn’t a coincidence! Parents: your participation MATTERS. Don’t let that good feeling you had from the Color Run fade away! Come to our meetings, help us do more fun stuff like that. Our last meeting of the year is Wednesday, May 2nd at 2:30.

The other big thing has been the #RedforEd movement and the protest on Thursday, April 26. As I type this, teachers all over the state are protesting Arizona’s education policies. As a Parent Teacher Organization, our  mission is to work with and support our teachers. I personally support our teachers, you may feel differently. I believe our teachers want the best for our students. As a PTO we try to make sure our teachers have the tools and materials they need to give our kids the best education possible.

I don’t know all of the issues. I know SOME of the issues. But if you’d like to discuss them, I’m happy to tell you what I do know, and how I feel about it. Come to the meeting and let’s figure it out! I’ll see you there.
