A Note From Our Principal,  Dr. Tamára McAllister

We made it to May! Now that we have arrived to the end of the school year it’s safe to tell you, to be honest, at the beginning of the school year I wasn’t 100% sure we would make it this far!  Things were definitely challenging way back in August.  We had not had all of our students here on campus for a full day in over a year.  Our kiddos had to learn what it meant to be a student in an actual classroom again. Through it all, our hard working students, supportive parents and dedicated staff figured it out and made it happen.  WE DID IT!

With so much hard work and effort, our summer goal is not to lose the progress made throughout the school year.   Please make sure your child is practicing reading strategies and math facts during the summer months.  We will be hosting summer SKILLS for Success program here at Douglas.  If you are interested in registering your child for summer SKILLS please stop by the office for a registration packet.

Kindergarten Registration-The Round-Up continues!  If you have a child who will be 5 years old before September 1, 2022, now is the time to please sign him/her up for the BEST all day Kindergarten program in Tucson.

Returning Students- We are in the process of creating class lists for next year.  Please complete the online registration process and return the yellow dismissal form to your child’s teacher.  If you are not planning to return to Douglas next year, simply mark “not returning” on the packet we sent home and return it with your child.  We aim to create balanced classes for next year so please be sure to complete your child’s registration!

Spirit Week: We will be having a Spirit Week the last week of school. Class Color Day (K=White, 1st = Orange, 2nd= Green, 3rd = Purple, 4th=Yellow, 5th= Blue, 6th= Red); Tuesday, Douglas Shirt Day; Wednesday, Summer/Beach Day, Thursday, Blue & Gold Day.

May is a busy month with many exciting activities planned.  Please check our website or the calendar attached to this newsletter for important dates and times.  Please remember, the last day of school is Thursday, May 26th and that day is noon dismissal!

Thank you to all of you for making this a successful school year, we couldn’t have done it without you!  We have truly enjoyed having your child at Douglas and have especially appreciated our interactions with you, our school community.  We wish our outgoing 6th graders well as they transition to Flowing Wells Junior High, you are becoming Mustangs but in our hearts you will always be Bulldogs.  For all kindergarten through 5th grade students, we wish you a magnificent summer and we will see you next year!

 Sincerely,

Dr. Tamára McAllister, Principal
