Douglas offers Skills for Success for grades 1-6, through Flowing Wells Community Schools. Parents may also enroll their child, including kinder, in the YES program, housed at Homer Davis Elementary. Skills for Success at
Douglas Elementary School

NOTE: Skills for Success is not open on half days. Please refer to the calendar included in your Sills for Success packet for more information.

The Skills for Success (S4S) program provides comprehensive, developmentally appropriate after-school activities, along with community support and education, for Douglas Elementary School students — all free of charge.

This after-school program provides opportunities that directly benefit the academic and social needs of each student with a focus on reading, math, language arts, computer literacy, and positive self-concept.

Skills for Success activities include academic student enrichment through tutoring and computer assisted instruction, after-school high interest classes and fieldtrips, indoor and outdoor recreation, adult mentoring, and numerous educational opportunities for the surrounding community. By providing these activities, the Skills for Success staff members hope to enrich and enhance the lives of those attending Douglas Elementary School.

Daily Schedule

This school year, Skills for Success begins on August 22nd, 2022 and ends on May 18, 2022. The program will run Monday through Thursday afternoons from 2:10 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. School doors will be locked until 4:30 p.m. for the safety of the students and staff. Free Bus Home

A bus is available to take the children from Skills for Success home. The bus is only available to those who do not live within walking distance. The bus departs at 4:45 p.m. Please refer to the transportation schedule is included in your packet.

There is open enrollment for this program; however, students are strongly encouraged to attend throughout the entire year. Skills for Success is closed on early-release days and no-school days. Please refer to the calendar included with your application packet for specific dates of closure.

Y.E.S. Program at Homer Davis Elementary School

Youth Enrichment Services (Y.E.S.) is a licensed childcare program operated by Flowing Wells Community Schools working in cooperation with the Flowing Wells School District. The Y.E.S. Program is licensed by the Department of Health and the Department of Economic Security. Y.E.S. is open before and after school from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

At Y.E.S., the professionally trained staff members plan and conduct activities to help children build self-esteem and expand their knowledge. In addition to typical daily activities, children have the opportunity to participate in fieldtrips, community service activities, and other exciting events.

There is no Y.E.S. Program on the Douglas Elementary School campus, but children who need to attend will be bused to the Homer Davis Y.E.S. Program, 4250 N. Romero Road.

Fees and Admission

Funding for the operation of YES is derived solely from tuition of the children who attend the program. There is an annual, non-refundable material fee of $30.00 for the first child, $25.00 for each additional child. Children are admitted on a space-available basis.

The YES rate is $4.20 per hour per child. Minimum billing time is one hour per day per child.
