Library

Dear Parents and Families,

The Douglas Media Center has a wide collection of fiction and nonfiction books in a range of reading levels for students to enjoy. Our selection of books is continuously growing with the help of the book fair and Brofest. This helps ensure that new and exciting titles are constantly being added. Thank you Bookfair and Brofest!

Each class visits the Media Center once a week following a four-day rotation schedule. All students are allowed to check out books, however, Primary grades must keep them in their classrooms. Intermediate grades may take their books home and continue renewing their checkout as needed. In addition to checking out books, we do activities and students are taught lessons to support and enhance their classroom reading curriculum. To make the library even more special, guest readers and older students visit to share stories as well as their love and enthusiasm for reading with the different classes.

I have always enjoyed reading and reading is an essential part of your child’s academic success. My goal is to foster a love of reading in every child as well as take part in their education. It is important to encourage and support this at home to promote a positive reading experience. Hearing students recognize books in the library from books they have at home makes me happy. I enjoy working with every student and creating a special place in their heart for reading.

Sincerely,

Nefertity Serna,  Douglas Library Technician
